Weybridge is about eight miles from our base in Old Windsor, and it’s one of the places in Surrey where architectural zinc is most at home. The Specialist Roofing Company is a family-run metal roofing firm, fitting zinc since 2007. We’re approved installers for VMZINC, RHEINZINK and PREFA, and we work with homeowners, architects and builders across Weybridge, St George’s Hill, Oatlands and Walton-on-Thames.

Zinc on Weybridge’s bigger houses
A lot of Weybridge work is on large detached houses, especially on St George’s Hill, the private estate laid out from 1911 by the builder W.G. Tarrant. The early Arts and Crafts houses there sit alongside a steady stream of contemporary replacement homes. That mix shapes the zinc work we’re asked for:
- Whole roofs and wall cladding on new and replacement houses, where the architect wants long, unbroken standing seam lines, concealed gutters and crisp edges.
- Pool houses, gyms, garages and garden studios. These are low-pitch buildings where zinc is lighter and neater than tiles and lasts far longer than felt.
- Extensions to Arts and Crafts and Edwardian houses. Here, pre-weathered zinc gives a modern addition a calm, grey finish that doesn’t fight the original brick and clay tile.
Weybridge’s conservation areas
Weybridge has more conservation areas than most towns its size. Elmbridge Borough Council looks after the Weybridge Town Centre and Monument Green conservation areas, Brooklands (home of the 1907 motor-racing circuit), the 17th-century Wey Navigation and the 1960s Templemere estate. Each has its own character, and the council publishes guidance for each, alongside the borough-wide Elmbridge Design Code.
If your property is in one of them, or listed, talk to your architect early. Zinc and copper are traditional roofing metals, so with the right drawings and samples they’re often acceptable. We can supply finish samples, product data and build-ups for your application.
Getting the details right on large roofs
Big, simple-looking zinc roofs are the hardest to get right. The longer the tray, the more it moves with heat, so fixed and sliding clips have to be in the right places. Concealed gutters and parapets need generous falls and good access for clearing, especially under the tall pines and oaks on many Weybridge plots. Rooflights and lanterns must be set out with the seams before any material is ordered.
We cover these in our articles on movement allowance in standing seam roofs and detailing rooflights in VMZINC standing seam.
Working by the Thames and the Wey
Homes near the Thames, the Wey and the Navigation sit in damper air. Moisture must never be trapped under zinc, so every roof gets a properly designed ventilated or warm build-up. See why ventilation matters.
